The city has initiated an education campaign to help residents adjust to the changes and have stepped up its call for citizen participation in the city's recycling efforts. Tom Kiefaber and his family have owned and operated Baltimore's renowned Senator Theatre throughout its illustrious 70 year history. When the recent economic downturn derailed The Senator Theatre's transition to not-for-profit ownership and operation, Baltimore City stepped in and purchased The Senator's defaulted commercial loan. An increasingly controversial foreclosure auction is scheduled for July 22nd, when The Senator will be sold to the highest bidder, possibly one of the churches that have expressed interest in owning and operating the iconic landmark theatre.
