Anthony McCarthy returns to WEAA having previously hosted a nationally recognized morning news program called Daybreak and as the founding host of First Edition and One to One with Anthony McCarthy.
For more than a decade McCarthy has been a constant voice in journalism, public policy circles, and Maryland’s progressive faith community. Whether as the host of three award-winning radio talk shows, as an aide to numerous national and local political leaders, or as a national speaker and lecturer on contemporary political and social issues, McCarthy has been engaged in informing, empowering and improving his community. He has worked in public relations, marketing, and communications for a list of who’s who in public policy including Rev. Jesse Jackson, U.S. Senator Charles Robb, former Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, and Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon.
McCarthy has served on several boards and commissions including the Association of Black Media Workers, the Contemporary Museum of Art, the Baltimore Teach for America Foundation, and the Maryland American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). He currently serves on the board of Union Memorial Hospital. Well respected by his media colleagues, Anthony is recognized as one of Baltimore’s foremost experts on city politics and political leaders. McCarthy was named to the Baltimore Business Journal’s “40 under 40” list in 2000 and 2003, recognizing the state’s 40 most influential leaders under the age of 40.
McCarthy is an ordained minister and is the founder of Grace & Mercy Ministries in Baltimore. He has officiated at numerous inter-faith events and works to bridge denominational and social differences within the contemporary church family. He has addressed religious oriented conferences and panels dealing with issues of race, sexual orientation, and liberation theology throughout the country.

He was also the youngest editor-in-chief of the Afro-American newspapers and the associate publisher of The Baltimore Times.
