About Anthony McCarthy
For more than a decade Anthony McCarthy has been a constant voice in journalism, public policy circles, and Maryland’s progressive faith community. Whether as the host of three award-winning radio talk shows, as an aide to numerous national and local political leaders, or as a national speaker and lecturer on contemporary political and social issues, Anthony McCarthy has been engaged in informing, empowering and improving the community.
As a journalist Anthony was the youngest Editor-in-Chief of the historic AFRO-American Newspapers. He is the former associate publisher of The Baltimore Times.
His morning talk show “Daybreak with Anthony McCarthy” on WEAA was one of the highest rated daily news and information programs in Baltimore. He is currently the host of “The Anthony McCarthy Show” on Fridays from 5- 7 p.m.
He also serves as a political analyst and commentator on WEAA and WYPR.
He has worked in public relations, marketing, public policy and communications for a list of who’s who in politics including Rev. Jesse Jackson, U.S. Senator Charles Robb, former Virginia Governor Douglas Wilder, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings, and Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon.
He has served on several boards and commissions including the Association of Black Media Workers, Equality Maryland, Empower Baltimore Management Corporation, the Contemporary Museum of Art, the Baltimore Teach for America Foundation, the Maryland American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), and the executive committee of the Baltimore NAACP.
Anthony is an ordained minister and a founder of Grace & Mercy Ministries. He has officiated at numerous inter-faith events and works to bridge denominational and social differences within the contemporary church. He has addressed religious oriented conferences and panels dealing with issues of race, sexual orientation, and liberation theology throughout the country.
